Gary Card

Hello! My name is Gary Card. I’m from Scituate, Rhode Island, which is a small and beautiful town in the eastern United States. I enjoyed long walks in the woods and playing in the snow as a child. I attended college at Northeastern University in Boston, Massachusetts and obtained a bachelor’s degree in computer science. I started working in the software industry after college but my heart always pulled me towards children’s education.

I started working with kids and teaching English as a second language in 1999. In the year 2000, I first came to Taiwan with some friends I met while practicing a kind of Chi-gong. I ended up settling in this beautiful country, and have been blessed with two amazing sons who have broadened and enhanced my life in countless ways.

I’ve been teaching at ACES since 2009, and started the Luodong branch in 2012. It is so satisfying to be able to meet and spend time with so many young students in Yilan as they go through elementary school and blossom into young adults. It’s thrilling to be a part of their lives by sharing an English journey! Of course I’m strict, as is the ACES way, but it’s only because I hope everyone gets the maximum improvement possible from our classes.

Firoz Gina

Hello, I’m Firoz. I was born in London, England. My mother is Taiwanese, and my father is British Indian.  We came to Taiwan in 2012.  I’ve been teaching English to Taiwanese children since 2015.  Coming to Taiwan to teach allowed me to discover a whole new interesting culture and lifestyle, and it gave me an optimistic impression so that I could enjoy and understand this country and the people here. I am fluent in both English and Mandarin. In terms of my character, I’m an enthusiastic, friendly, and easy-going person.  I enjoy watching movies, listening to music, working out and traveling.

It didn’t take me long to realize how much I enjoy teaching children English.  It is my passion. I believe being patient with children is so important for a teacher, due to their different personalities and abilities. I want students to enjoy learning English, not to see it as a chore.

It feels rewarding to see my students progress in their English ability, because it is a must know language to benefit and achieve more in life. I really enjoy being in Taiwan and I want to continue teaching as a career for the long run.
